What is it now? Day 4? or 5? I did start teaching him a few weeks ago, for 1 day. Then i stopped because i found it difficult to teach. Then i looked online onw ays to teach it. In the end i just used the method in my dog training book. So yeah, we have about two small sessions a day and it's like day 5 now. So hey, he's a fast learner.

I had to have the Camera resting on the floor as i had both hands full (One with a small piece of cheese and another the clicker). So yeah, he can't skate independantly without a little guidance but he sure is catching on. The book i have says it can take several weeks to several months. With Milo, i think weeks XD

Cherries work for mine and they are healthy, expecially when they are in cherry pies!

Milo used to like carrots, not too sure if he likes them anymore XD I use whatever motivates Milo, if carrots work for your Pug then you're lucky! I'd make sessions longer if there was a healthier treat that would motivate him. Let me know how you get on with it! :)

Thanks, Sophie, I'm gonna try that. My husband has a long board and it can go pretty fast so I guess I have to find a safe enough surface first. I'm thinking of using carrots as he is on a diet and he loves them. Thanks again! :)

Well, Milo barks at the skateboard if i hold it but once it's on the floor he's fine. he was fine with it from the start, which surprised me.. Milo's never seen me use the skateboard so its only ever been him. Maybe that's why he's fine with it. I've skated before a few years ago but broke my arm so i havent done it since :p ha.

Anyway, at first i got little slices of hotdog and lured at least one of his paws onto the board then clicked and followed up with a slice of hotdog. I held the board so it didn't slide about and scare him. My goal was to get him to confidently place his two front paws on the board. Then when he had a row of successfull attemps at that i moved onto the next level of getting one of his back legs onto the board aswell. He didn't do it by himself, he just had his two front paws on the board so i gave his back leg a little nudge and he plopped it onto the board, thats when i clicked and gave hime a treat.

When he understood that i want him to have three legs on the board and when he was doing it confidently with a row of successful attempts i moved to the next level, i attached a leash to the two front wheels of the board and held it still whilst he climbed on with three legs. ..Then i slowly moved the board forward and a small distance and as soon as he lifted the leg in the air that wasnt on the board i clicked and gave a treat.

I kept doing that until he understood he had to push with his leg then i built up the distance :p Still working on that, wanna try and get him to go further and do it confidently without me holding onto the leash or board.

Oh yeah, i don't use hotdog slices anymore now that he is confident around and being on the board, i just use a small flake of grated cheese.

How did you start teaching him? Al gets scared of my husband's skateboard 'coz it's so big. Great job, Milo!

Haha, I'm sure he'd love learning if it's a reward of something he truly wants XD A little shred of grated cheese is enough to get Milo to want to skate :p
