Urgent Prayer Request For 3 of My Babies!!

I have an urgent prayer request.  Bonnie, Louie and Ginger all got bit this morning by a copperhead snake.  I had put all 6 out in the pen for morning potty break.  When I let them in a little bit later I noticed Louie was holding up one of his front paws and wouldn't put weight on it.  He wouldn't eat his breakfast either.  I thought maybe he stepped on something.  I had to leave for an appointment and was going to check on him when I got home which would have been a couple of hours.  Luckily James came by the house during work hours and he said Louie didn't look good and the paw was 3 times it's normal size.  He said I'm taking him to the vet right now I think he may have been bitten by a snake.  We this was around 12:00 and our vet closes from 12-3 everyday.  I called to see if by chance he was there and explained we had an emergency.  But the receptionist/vet tech said he was gone till 3.  So James took Louie to our old vet who is very good but expensive.  Turns out yes he was bitten by a copperhead.  They get him started on IV of antibiotics and steroids and fluids.  They said the venom can spread and block off air passages if not treated soon enough.  After Louie got settled James came home and said Bonnie would not come out of her crate and he noticed her face was swollen.  He knew immediately she had been bitten too.  He calls me and we both rush to the vet.  I can't believe this is happening.  Bonnie got bit on her nose and she was very lethargic.  They let us stay in the back while vet and two techs worked on her getting IV's started and drawing blood to test.  I am talking to both her and Louie and assuring them they will be ok and such.  They tell us to check back this afternoon.  They thought Louie would recover but said they wouldn't know about Bonnie for a few hours.  We go home and are trying to digest all this and checking all the other dogs and notice swelling under Ginger's chin.  Well we knew immediately what it was.  We rush to the car and I call vet to tell them we have another one!!!!!!  This can't be happening!!!!!!  So right now all three are at the vet in cages next to each other and being monitored.  I will update as soon as I know something.  We are to check back later today.  We will probably go there and see them.  Please pray they are all ok and can come home this afternoon which they said they could if all looks ok.  This is a nightmare!!!!!  I am in total shock right now.

If you are on FB the vet has a page which I posted on my FB page about them.

Med with salt & pepper sautéed in a skillet.  Also a smidge of chicken broth.  LOL  He has actually started eating some dog food again!

Yes Pam moth balls are very toxic to pets.  But this stuff is ground to a powder and dissolves in the soil just leaving the lovely scent.  I am so over Doggie DRAMA!!!!!  My bank account can't handle anymore.  LOL

OMG...my heart was racing as I read this.  Then I looked down to see if there was an update.  Oh, Louie knows how to live well while recovering.  Sweet Terri, you do have drama with your wee pack, don't you?  Glad the moth balls are keeping the snake away, but then that could cause another problem if the dogs get them.  Yikes, if it's not one thing, it's another.  Keep us updated.  :0(

My 3 continue to improve.  Finally found something Louie will eat.  Sirloin steak!  Tried giving it to him raw but he turned up his nose.  He prefers it cooked and seasoned.  LOL  He also drank water of his own accord last night.  I sure hope he doesn't get used to this diet.  Oh and you have to hand feed it to him or he won't eat it.  Bonnie and Ginger have no noticeable effects left.  The dog pen has been trimmed up and de snaked.  Well we never saw the snake but the yard guys were all in there and never found one dead or alive.  The lovely aroma of moth balls now permeates the air when we walk outside.  LOL
