Has anyone ever gone through Therapy dog training? I'm thinking Maxx could do this, he is so gentle and loves to just lay down next to people on couches and beds and cuddle up. My business partner took him to visit someone he knows at a hospital that loved dogs, but she was in a bad accident and recently out of a coma. She loved Maxx, he gently nibbled on her fingers and laid down next to her.
His only problem I see right now is he is scarred of quick movements and loud sounds, but I think he can grow out of that, probably all puppies are afraid of those things.
I've done a bit of research online, will do some more, but thought if anyone else here had the experience I'd ask. Probably a lot different in Canada and the US as well. Most of the places I found so far are the states, but St John's Ambulance is supposed to offer courses. Also Canadian Kennel Club has a test you can take to get certified a friendly dog or something like that which gets you on your way.
I think Kloe could even do it, but she is a bit more excitable than Maxx so I never even thought of it for her at the time, but seeing the way Maxx is I'm thinking this could be a cool thing to do with him for people.
Therapy dogs go to hospitals, old age homes, etc. and just try and make the people happier by giving them a bunch of dog love. Maxx seems perfect for it so far. We will see. The other problem is if I'm good enough to do it, the human has to get trained as well!
