As many of you know i have a new puppy, she is 8 weeks old.She has had diahria scence i have brought her home, except for the first 2 days. This was not a big issue for me as she was away from moms milk and starting a new food, new home also. She was and is eating drinking and acting like a normal puppy..:) But on sunday i gave the dewormer medicine to her and on monday she had blood in her diahria!! So yesterday it was nothing but boiled chicken and rice , a little pedialite. Her stools today have no blood in them and are a little thicker, yeah!I called one of my vets who lives down the street, works from home now and she doesnt have the equipment to do stool analysis, she mainly cleans my girls anal glands and clips nails. We have an apointment with other vet tomorrow..they werent too concerned obviously or they would have got me in today..Yesterday was very exausting as i was so very woried about my little girl.Like i said she seems just fine, but blood in stool is a big red flag. Both her parents were lean pugs with good muscle tone so she is a bonie skinny thing which worries me also as my other 2 pugs and bellas babys were puppy pudgy ya know what i mean?Any one else ever have a skinny puppy? I will feel much better tomorrow im sure after she is seen...

My Portia is just year old. She is tall and long and slender, but she is beautiful. My 2 other Pugs I had were little on the pudgy side and shorter legs, Enjoy you new puppy.

I would keep her on the chicken and rice for now at least until the medicine kicks in, it could be that the puppy food is not agreeing with her.

Update, we are home from yhe vet. and jade is looking good..:)No problems that she could see so she gave some medication for her diahria.I added a little puppy kibble this morning to her chicken and rice and her stools started to look a little runny again,,yuck!! My steam cleaner is permently parked in the house for now! LOL. I must say if you dont catch them fast enough they will find the most furthest hardest spot to reach to potty!

At 8 week old I would be very concerned but if it seems to be abating with feeding chicken and rice I would just continue, sometimes it can be the change in water for the little ones, the flora and fauna in the water can be just different enough to cause problems. My breeder was surprised when I asked her to fill a bottle of water from her tap for me to take home but I had good reason for this as here in Scotland we have what is termed as soft water, most of the water in England is termed as hard water. Can I ask if your breeder did not give you the food she was feeding her, because continuity is quite important in a young puppy also?
I too hope that she is on the mend. Regards Helena

Tracy, I am so sorry to hear about Jade's problems. I sure hope it isn't anything like giardia. Please keep us posted on her condition.

We sure haven't had a problem with a skinny pug in our house. I am so sorry little Jade is having to go through this. Poor little girl. I am glad you are taking her to the vet tomorrow, surely it's some little bug in her belly causing this. The pedialite is a great thing to know, I would have never thought of that. Sending baby Jade hugs and kisses, please let me know how her appointment goes. Hang in there mama, she's going to be okay.

Never had a skinny puppy, but 11 year old pug had a real bad case of diarrhea and it was bloody, and my vet was not concerned at all, Just told me to put her on the chicken and rice, and see how she is in a couple of day. She is OK now, but I have kept her on the chicken and rice, as she would get loose every time I put her back on her dog food. Vet said that was OK for her, so that is what she is eating.

Sorry to hear that Tracy. I hope she gets better soon. My babies have not experienced this so i can't help you on this one. But if you get a good result from the medicine please let us know so we can all learn from this.

Oh no! Blood in stool means parasites usually. Since shes a puppy shes more prone to viruses so I hope your puppy is going to be okay!! Keep us updated. I never heard of giving a dog pedialyte and I looked it up and most dogs w/Parvo recover on pedialyte! Thats amazing, I learn something new everyday. Hugs and hope all is well soon!!
