so oscar has had his second vet visit in the past 3 months. steroids, oral antibiotics, antibiotic ear drops, antibiotic eye drops. he also has 2ndary dermatitis due to the allergies.

not sure what to do next. our vet said that our last hope is to try a hypoallergenic diet. she recommends science diet z/d but the ingredients are so INSANE!

i also checked out the ingredients in several other foods: nutro ultra holistic, avoderm, nature's recipe, and natural balance.

anyone have any ideas? he's currently on nutro natural choice lamb & rice. people have suggested changing his protein from lamb to something else, but could it be the rice. a lot of "healthier" dog foods have rice in them and he was on chicken before the lamb.

i'm at my wits end and my main concern is the comfort of my love pug.

any help or suggestions from the pug community would be great. i'm really tired and worried about the long term affects of all these meds.

hmm pick up the book THE NATURE OF ANIMAL HEALING by Dr Marty Goldstein, he is based in So Salem NY (about an hour outside of NYC) he has a sirius radio show and has lots to say about allergies causes and cures. you can do a phone consult with his office (he treats lots of pugs he has 1 client in NJ that owns 27 pugs! how lucky are they!) you will probably need a special blood test done to tell you what your dog is allergic to, then he can recommend from there... good luck good health is possible!

I have been looking for a way to treat Stuey my oldest Pug he is so itchy. Today I found a blog that said to mix 1/3 cup of warm water with 1/3 cup of baby oil and 1/3 cup of regular Listerene. Put these in a spray bottle and shake well. Spray it on the fur and hot spots and rub it in. Many people went back to the site and said that they are having great luck with this formula. I mixed some up today and sprayed Stuey. I will get back to you later if this works. At the moment he is not scratching.

Hi Oscar's Mom,

I researched hypoallergenic dog food and found this blog. Check it out. I hope this helps.
