Kara (non pug, ChiX) has not been eating much for a month and we haven't found out whats wrong with her yet.  At first we thought she was just getting picky, but blood work shows liver enzymes and proteins aren't right.  Did check for tick illnesses and its not that.  Just did an ultrasound and will know result later today.

My question is for anyone that has gone through liver problems with dogs.  I've read that Milk Thistle and Nettle are great for the liver.  Any suggestions on dosage, where to get, etc.  Any thoughts on where to go from here for her?  The Ultra sound should tell us more and I'm hoping its not cancer.

Konrad is there any news on the wee one?

Wow, Konrad, what a shame they still cannot figure what is wrong.  It all does sound scary, but if she seems to feel well enough, just keep doing what you and the vet want you to do.  We will be thinking on her till your next post update.

Probably spent about $4000 can on all the tests, etc. so far. :(  and we still don't know what it is.

She stayed with the vet over night on Thursday to try and get a liver biopsy, but with her small body they could not find the right window to get in there with a fine needle so they gave up on that.

We have eliminated a few things and waiting for more test results Monday. On Friday we decided to do some treatment even though  we don't know what it is and we are treating it as an infectious disease and giving her antibiotics, something to help the liver, and something for upset stomach.

One thing that developed last week was anemia, low red blood cells.  Her gums are fairly grey.  The doctor is fairly worried about this and we blood typed her and have blood reserved for her just in case she needs a transfusion.

The crazy thing is all that sounds scary, but if you saw her you wouldn't know she is sick.  She looks fine, a bit tired and she does eat, but only meat I give her. :)

Here is a picture I really like I took in the summer.

And the whole gang!

I am happy to hear she has no signs of cancer as I am sure you are, if sh is only eating chicken better that than nothing, perhaps she knows her liver needs a bit of a rest. Keep us in touch as to how she is doing.

She got to stay with the vet for half the day today and they ran a whole bunch of tests.  Will know more Wednesday.  Depending on how they turn out will lead us to what treatment or more tests we need to still do.

Ultrasound found no cancer, the liver did show some slight signs of problems.  After the Ultrasound Kara started to get better.  For about three days she started eating her food regularly.  But now she is back to no eating, will only eat things like chicken.  We have a specialist appointment on Tuesday since the regular vet has run out of ideas.  Bloodwoork still shows problems, hasn't gotten worse, but hasn't gotten better.  Its been about two months now.  Sure hope we figure out something ASAP.

Oh Konrad just noticed this, no not much use for you, hope the ultra sound shows how it is. Mostly cats with liver problems and those in old age. The last one was many many years ago and things will have progressed some I am sure. I hope for the best for her, she is such a cutie.
