Any tips for an itchy pug?? They think I have allergies, but the vet wants to do a bazillion tests before they'll give me a shot.. Sis'er rubbed a little cortisone cream on my wrinkles & it's helping.. My allergy pills helped at first, but the downside is that they kept me awake at night.. I was wondering, what do you guys do when you get itchy?
Also, can us Pugs (or any other dog for that matter) get lice? Sis checked my fur last night & said aside from a little dandruff, I was clean. Just wondering. Thanks!!!!!

These are really good ideas & it's extremely helpful because you all know first hand. Thanks so much for the advice & stories. My vet put me on allergy pills & they have been helping, but I will give some of these a try too! Thanks again! *snort*

YOGI was very itchy too. I changed his diet to a grain free/salmon or surf n turf. The fish oil really has helped ease the itchies. I also watch what is in his treats, grain free there too.

When I bathe him I use Aveeno Bath on his legs and underside. Some say it may be allergies from the seasons.

A bazillion tests? My vet said that the only reason vets do that is to make more money off of you! When we moved to Seattle Dolce Dog was really allergic to the field that was behind our house. I took her to the vet because I thought it was fleas but he quickly checked and said there was no signs of fleas. He checked her paws and immediatly knew it was allergies. He gave her two shots and sent me home with a pills that I wasn't to start on for a week and a shampoo to use once a week. She did great after that! We are no back in CA and she is still on her pills put the vet thinks she should be fine once she runs out.

My fawn pug has major allergies. I feed him food that is made from duck and has noi soy, wheat, or corn and it has helped some. He was on allergy shots for several years and they stopped working earlier this year so I had him retested a few weeks ago and we are going to start the new serum as soon as it comes in. Hopefully it will help. Not oly was he VERY itchy but he would get secondary bacteria infections and was on antibiotis all the time. After had hime allergy tested in 2004 and started the shots he was much better! I have tried bebedryl, hydroxizine, and many other types of pills. I give him Zyrtec occasionally when he is really itchy. Talk to your vet about the dose. Toby can have 1/2 pill twice a day. He weighs about 25 pounds. I also got shampoo from the vet and it helps. He has cost me a fortune over his 5 years but I wouldn t change a thing! Hope this helps~!

Yes Pugs can get lice, pups are the most likely candidate because they have sometimes not got the immunity to combat such things. I unfortunately had a puppy who came to me from the breeder with these and boy did she get told. This was not Hektor though he was super clean. How bad are your itches, bad enough to make you bleed when you scratch, where do you itch. Hektor has a go at his chin in the morning and I know when his ears are bothering him as they are the next thing. If your Medical Man suggests an allergy test I would have it done. Saves a whole lot of mucking around.

On occasion one of mine will start doing the same thing, they have no known allergies just a normal itching thing. It gets me to the point where I get on the floor with them and start doing the same thing, then we all start itching one another, get those spots we otherwise would not be able to.

That was just a bit a humor. I do hope you find out what is causing it. A flag always goes up in my head when mine start itching and get a bit too vigorous about doing it.

Try giving them an epsom salt old fella has bad food allergies, and on the occassion that he gets something he should not have, an epsom salt bath always helps ease the itching. I would recommend getting the allergy test done though, that way you can pinpoint what is directly setting the pug off and avoid it....the puggies are so pitiful when they can't stop itching :(
