Morning all. Its the day before Christmas and nothing is done. Ok not NOTHING. I have gotten most of my baking done. Still have a little more to do and have have decided to add to some I've already got done. The recipies did'nt make as much as I remembered. Oh well.
I'd like you to meet Pepper. He's our newest pug. We found him wondering along the railroad tracks just outside of where I work. He was walking like he was hurt so my husband stoped and coxed him over with a peice of broccoli. Yes he ate it and seemed to really like it. He let Greg pick him up and put him in the truck. As we were taking him to the vet we did a hand check to see if we could feel anything broken or maybe sore. He didn't move, other then to lick Gregs hand. As the vet looked him over it was thought maybe he had been put in a small kennel when he was a pup, wasn't alowed out much and never given a bigger place to stay as he grew. He Cant sit at all and walks at a angle. His hind quarters is almost flat. I mean his hip bones are way to close togather. When he walks he hardly uses his back legs. When he runs he REALLY REALLY looks like a rabbit. I'll have to get a video of that. He can't raise his leg to pee and when it comes time to poo he stands on his frount paws and picks both back legs up. Needless to say he walks as he goes. He can't go down steps.......yet. After watching him I think he can be trained to go down them. Because he cant use his back legs I think he's afraid he'll fall. I've already started teaching him. I put him at the top of the steps and get in frount of him. Take his coller and gently pull him to the edge then put my hands on his sholders and guide him down. He's trying but so far only makes 3 of the 8 steps he needs to get down to go to the yard. We are thinking about a ramp for him. We'll have to get one soon anyway. Maggie is starting to find it hard to get up and down the steps. Anyway we dont think Pepper was a stray very long. He still weighed 15 pounds, wasn't people shy and his only health problem was ring worm. It was a real trick keeping Pepper away from the others while he was under treatment. We put the word out that we had him and the vet said they would call us if anyone asked about a lost pug. Well its been a month now so I'm guessing no one wants him but us. He has one funny but odd habit. When its time for him to do something he really doesn't want to do, like go in the safe area during meal time, he'll growl at you and lick you at the same time. Its like he's saying I dont want to do this but I still love you for taking me in.
