How to stop him from attacking the puppy pads?

Hi all,
I'm having trouble with my 8 month old puppy. He has been trained to go on pads since 7 weeks. He is toilet trained and it's been great. We live in an apartment so he goes on the balcony to toilet.
Just last week, there was major wind and it must have lifted the pads (I stick them down with masking tape) and kato must have thought: hey, those look like fun! Since that stupid windy day, he has been scratching the pads and tearing them to shreds and eating parts of it!!! It's driving me crazy cleaning it up. I've tried to stick all sides own but he just tears it. We've never had a problem before till that day. How can I stop him??

I remember those days all to well. I finally had to buy the cloth pads which work great. The down side, I do laundry all the time. Early on I tried commands but nothing seemed to work. I've come to realize pugs have a mind of their own and are very stubborn. The only control I have with them is a "fly swatter". I've never smacked them with it but they seem to be scared of them...LOL I have more fly swatters than flies. Owning pugs takes a great deal of time, many prayers and a good sense of humor.

like paul said! the ugodog mine tear up pads to so we have the ugodog and problem solved! mine have been pad trained since puppy's they do not use it much anymore as they can hold it longer and usually Ruan comes home at lunch to let them out but we still keep it in the kitchen as that is where they are when we are at work

I love the pads coz it's so easy to clean. If he does it on the stinks. I'll grab a bucket and wash the floor. Usually that's a Saturday thing I do but I don't want it to do it everyday. Pads are easy. Grab and throw away.

Can't you just try taking the pads away and have kato go potty outside on the balcony or are the pads actually inside the house? Rufus prefers grass but will "go" on plain concrete/pavement if he has to. He started tearing up his pads too when he was a puppy so I just stopped using them and he quickly understood he needed to let me know when he wanted to be outside. He used to circle near the door (where I had the pads) and then progressed to scratching the door if I couldn't see him. Hope you find something that works!

If I have a box with dirt in it, I can see the little monster digging n I'll find dirt everywhere on my balcony!!! Lol...oh not so funny if that happened. I've tried the fake grass mat too and it just wasn't good coz when he would have wet poos, it just wouldn't wash off properly. Very gross!! Pads just work but now he is attacking it. Just then, I was in the bathroom...wondering why it was so wuiet in the lounge...switched lights on on balcony and just saw white everywhereeeeeeeeee!!! Arghhhh he started this dragging thing too and I found ripped pads in my kitchen.
I'm so glad you find it funny Christine!!!! LOL..My husband thinks so too as he doesn't clean up! You're right though, it's hard To stay mad at their smushed up faces!!
Ive just googled ugodog..I'm thinking it's oing to be like the fake grass...yucky to clean?
Thanks for your ideas everyone!! is kinda funny.... But don't tell Kato that!!

Have you looked at something like the ugodog? It's a grate system that you can put puppy pads under it. It may help with the situation, or you could try to break him of doing his duty there and make it so he goes outside?

oh i remember those days when i first got buggy he would tear them apart or carry them off someplace actually i used duct tape but,he'd still tear them apart, have you tried commands with him or maybe a little bitter apple spray around it as they don't like that taste much.maybe someone here may have a few ideas on this it is quite a habit and costly.Hope you get some other help on this.
