Since I am an animal behaviorist, I thought I would start sharing some fun facts about our canine friends. I will do this as often as I can. SO..........
EVER WONDER WHY YOUR DOG LOVES TO DRINK OUT OF THE TOILET?????
Yes, your dog loves toilet water. Why? Most of your dogs behaviors, wanted and unwanted all relate back to pack behavior. First, toilet water is always fresh and cool. Flushing of the toilet brings in fresh oxygenated water, and the porcelain surface keeps the water cool, much more enticing than water that has been left around for even a few hours.
Secondly, survival instincts may be kicking in here. It has been discussed that the refreshing of the toilet water by flushing may satisfy the canine's natural instinct for running water. In the wild, a moving stream or river breaks up various forms of contanminates such as mold and some forms of yeast that can collect in stagnant pools of water. I think I would rather drink from a cool mountain stream rather than an algae covered pond.....hopefully the streams I am referring to are untouched by polluntants supplied by industry. So the next question is, should you allow your dog to drink from the toilet? The answer is a resounding NO!!! Your toilet may contain residue from cleaning items and other things (we all know what I am referring to here.). Just keep the lid down, and guys, this may be difficult for you!!!!
