I have found that the only easy time to do this is bathtime. However i dont bath mine but every 2-3 months.Except Jade who has more skin allergies,so i put her in the sink like she is getting a bath, with the water running then while her attention is on other things i squirt it into her ears then massage it in then wipe. But i agree with everyone else it really is a 2 person job most of the time.
Yes I agree with Helena you might want to try someone helping you by holding the head while you do the drops or ointment. I have the same problem doing Linus and Lizzy's glands. They fight me tooth and nail, and I end up giving up on the whole thing. Lily and Lulu let me do the gland thing no problem. I now have to get Henry to help me the the gland issue, and he is very much against holding their legs while I do the nasty deed.
We have found that this is a two person job, my husband holds Hektor and I put the drops in. Same with his eyes. Very difficult on your own as you cannot hold onto the dog while putting the drops in. Hektor is older than Calla and has been having these things done since he was quite young so I suppose he is more laid back about it. I think Konrad's idea is a good one.
thanks Konrad I have tried the hide the bottle technique and yes when I tried to restrain her she was breathing heavy so I stopped right away she knows the "look" of the bottle now I wonder if I should put in another bottle? she most likely has the yeast build up due to the fact we give up on cleaning her ears and I know we have to figure something out
My little Zoe was awful for these things. Pills were the worst. Not sure if this will help, but here is what I did to put drops in Zoe's ears.....
I would put her on one side laying down. I would bring the bottle of drops over to the ear from the top of her head side so she couldn't see the bottle. You still need to be fast since she would only stay still for so long. Then put her on her other side and bring the bottle from the other side again so she doesn't see it coming.
Restraining never worked for me. She just got all crazy and breathing hard and would hate it more.
Eye drops were tough.
One thing that I got from the vet that was really great for ears was ear cleaning solution. It smelled really nice and would help change the ph of the ears. It really helped me manage Zoe's ears.
