Kloe was still inside, but I let Jake and Abbey out and bingo was his nameo, there was a skunk to chase.  Jake got it full on and started drooling really bad.  I sprayed them both off with water (they were both scarred of the spraying so it was hard).  Then went to a late night vet and got some skunk off.  They didn't have the shampoo, only the spray so I used that.  Didn't work that well.  Then Jake runs to the front yard and bingo was his nameo a 2nd time he comes back stinking of skunk.  The stink gets into the house everywhere.  I stunk.  I had to drive the dogs home (I was at my sisters) so now the truck stinks.  I've didn't get much sleep.  I gave everyone a shower and used the skunk off.  Useless.  SO I called my regular vet in the morning and they said to use a homemade recipe.  I saw it also on the internet.  I tried it, but still Jake is stinky.  It does say to keep trying, but I'm too tired and the dogs think they are in big trouble from all my yelling and showering them so I'm giving it a rest for now.

My other neighbor said Tomato juice works, but others say thats just a myth?

My sister told me her neighbors dog died after getting skunked directly in the face.  I had a look at the internet and there are others saying the same thing, but my Vet just laughs and says they have never heard of such a thing.  But that doesn't mean much since they never heard of PDE for Pugs either!

And I've got a big job I'm preparing for on the weekend.  ANd I've got this new puppy to look after.  Arrgghh!!! :)

Bakeing soda is supposed to obsorb odors, you could sprinkle that in your truck.I mixed a cup of it with a few drops of good smelling oil and leave it sit in the doggy areas.

Hey Konrad if all else fails with your truck you could mask the oder with a couple of those car scent things, you know the ones you hang from the mirror.  Stick a couple around in the truck and maybe it will help some

Jake seems not too bad now.  I've let him back on the couch and bed. :)  Or it might be I just used to the smell. :) But the truck still smells since I don't really have anything to treat it with.  I've got a few things, but I guess it will just take time.

My in-laws swear by vinegar for their dogs. Specifically, they stock up on feminine douches that are vinegar based and spray down their dogs with that. No, I'm not pulling your leg! :D Oh, and the dogs are Old English sheepdogs so that's a lot of hair to treat! I'm don't know the details of the whole process however. I know to use vinegar to get odors out of cloth you need to let it dry which doesn't seem like a good idea on a dog...

I tried the home recipe, but didn't do much for Jake.  But I probably needed to make more and pour it on like it says below.  I used a washcloth and messaged it into the fur.  I'm going to try the tomato juice.  If that doesn't work then I'll give the recipe another try.

  • Try a tip from Paul Krebaum. Who’s Paul?
He’s the chemist whose masterful de-skunking remedy gets the job done. Here’s his secret recipe, originally featured in Popular Science magazine in 1995.

Mix together 1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda and 1 teaspoon of liquid soap. Then wet the pup and slowly pour the mixture over the dog (take care not to get it into his eyes, ears or mouth). Rub the mixture into the dog’s fur as you go and let it sit for up to five minutes. Then hose him down for skunk-free fur.

Note:  While hydrogen peroxide can bleach clothing and hair, it does not appear to bleach or fade dog fur.

Tomato juice for sure! Know for a fact it works.. Our old dog loved skunks. Killed about 3 of them and know that tomato juice gets it out.

Looks like bleach works fairly well for things like clothes, towels, blankets if you can use it on them.

OMP!!!!!  How awful!  I really feel for you and know what a hassle and stinky pain in the butt this must be.  I've only ever heard the tomato juice thing myself but never had to try it thank goodness.  I'd go buy the vinegar like Pugnacious said and I buy tomato juice too and try them both on your self and the dogs.  Good luck with puppy le pews.
