Having a pug can prove quite expensive, due to the many health problems which can occur anytime. Therefore, a vet bills assistance tips article should help you with the issue.

If, despite your planning, your pet incurs major veterinary expenses that you have trouble affording, consider these suggestions:

Ask your veterinarian if he or she will let you work out a payment plan. Many veterinarians are willing to work out a weekly or monthly payment plan so that you do not have to pay the entire cost of veterinary care up front.

Contact your local shelter. Some shelters operate or know of local subsidized veterinary clinics or veterinary assistance programs. You can find the name and number of your local shelter in the Yellow Pages of your phone book under "animal shelter," "animal control," or "humane society," or by calling Information. You can also go to www.Pets911.com and enter your zip code to find a list of animal shelters, animal control agencies, and other animal care organizations in your community.

If you have a specific breed of dog, contact the National Club for that breed. In some cases, these clubs offer a veterinary financial assistance fund.

Ask your veterinarian to submit an assistance request to the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) "Helping Pets Fund." In order to qualify, your animal hospital must be AAHA accredited. To learn more about the program visit the AAHA web site. To find a AAHA accredited hospital in your area, search online at www.Pets911.com.

Use your credit card. Ask for a higher credit limit or a cash advance.

Call your bank. Ask about loan programs, second mortgages, or other options. Consider borrowing from your life insurance policy, vacation savings, kids' education fund, or retirement program.

Ask your employer for a salary advance.

Alert family and friends and ask them each for a $25 loan.

Pawn your stuff. TVs and VCRs can be replaced. Your pet can't.

Consider taking on a part-time job or temping.

Contact the regional office of The HSUS that covers your state. Our regional office staff is often familiar with organizations and personnel within their territory and may be able to direct you to programs in your area.

My soon to be ex husband left me for another woman and wouldn't come back to see Butters. He said this was his dog, but let me keep my baby boy so we wouldn't separate him from the other pug I have. He has not shared or helped with any expenses. We just lost our black, male pug last week. My little baby girl pug, Pickles, going through mourning and I'm keeping her same routine going. I am trying to mourn, but not in front of her because she's upset. Now her hind legs are getting weak. Her sphincter's getting weak and she cannot make the trip to her potty without losing control. She still can control her bladder though. She's on starting steroids to see if any inflammation's to blame. If not, she wants to send me to a get a CT. I cannot afford $800.00 to $1000.00, Please give me some information on how to get this done at a sensible price. Please help. I don't want to lose her too. Thank you so very much for listening.

I just lost my black, male pug named Butters. My girl fawn pug's in depression. She started getting depressed. I keep her routine up, play with her toys with her. In the mean time, I am desperately missing my Butters. Now she's lost function of her back legs. The vet says we are going to put her on steroids to see if this will work for any inflammation. He sphincter's slowing down and she potties as soon as she eats. She was potty trained and gets upset if she doesn't make the trip to the kitty box (I trained them both to the kitty box). Then my vet said we may have to do some CT testing and might cost $800.00. I don't see how radiology people could charge this much for a little dog. I don't want to loose her to and don't know what to do. Please help. Thank you for listening.
