I was attending an APARN foster event at Choice Pet Market when a very intent looking woman approached me. Her name was Kathleen and she owned a Talent Agency for animals. She needed 3 more pugs for a movie. She needed two fawns and a black and wanted them to be bonded. In the movie the main character owns 6 pugs. She already had 3 pugs that she previously worked with. I happened to have the combo of dogs she needed and in addition had one more black pug. I also live fairly near her, so I… Continue

I love Petey! He is one of the most unusual pugs I've ever known.
I began fostering Petey for APARN over 1 1/2 years ago. He's 7 years old. He was owned by a former vet tech who made the mistake of leaving Petey on the floor with her 9 month old and toys. Petey is toy possessive so he bit the baby. Petey had many difficult issues so I volunteered to take him on.
Petey is a registered pug (surprise!!!) who was born deaf and missing part of his brain, the cerrebellum. This… Continue

On April 4, I made the decision to not allow the suffering of my male pug Rycher to even begin. I've always said that I wasn't going to be like most people and keep him hanging on because I didnt want to let go. I've never understood why people do that. But I do now. Essentially what I did was took his pain and brought it on to myself. I thought I was ready to do that. Man was I wrong. It literally brought me to my knees. Its now been almost 2 months and its still very raw. Some people say I… Continue

Carbohydrates are responsible for a pug's energy levels and reserves. Most of the carbohydrates are derived from plant proteins but some sources are more digestible than others. Dog food manufacturers are able to manipulate blood glucose levels for example, by combining different carbohydrates in the types of food they sell.
Corn, barley and wheat are more digestible, thus more preferred by pugs and pug owners all over the world.
Further, carbohydrates… Continue

I had looked everywhere and finally found a harness. I don't really like it but it is okay. I see a lot of pugs in the pictures on here in the harnesses with the strap going vertically down the tummy. Mine criss-crosses on the back and goes horizontally across the tummy. I would much rather have the other one. If anyone has a link or brand, will you let me know? I really have looked at all the stores around, and this is the only one I can come up with. Thanks for your help!

The picture on my page is one of Hope my very special girl.
Hope came to me in October 2007 as part of very sick litter of 12 week old puppies turned into Rescue by a back yard breeder. The breeder realized that he couldn't sell these sick puppies and turned them in to me along with the Mom and Dad pugs.
The puppies were pink and raw from Demodex. Several had eye ulcers. Hope had a seizure within the first half hour of being with me so it was off to the emergency Vet for… Continue

I didn't grow up with pugs as a child; we had a part collie, part German Shepherd, poodles. cocker spaniels,MUTTS! So, it was an adventure to get to know how it is to live with a pug. Personality aside, they are the most fun, onery, adventuresome animals I have ever met. They are foxy clever, and can play dumb better than a rock! They are loving, caring, sympathetic....there are 2 in my life just now and I wouldn't trade them for anything! Pugs are just the neatest to own! Everyone should get to… Continue

As we all have seen more and more rescues are in need this year more so than last, with the economy in such a state,it's hard for these rescues to do what they do.For each family that must give up their little curly tail wonder, these rescues try to never say no,they accept all know matter how full they are, these people are on call at all times, opening their homes to the next pug in need,as i know what they do and how long of hours they give.As so many have come forward to want to help to open… Continue

Just wanted to let you all know that my husband are leaving next week with Sparky and Lilli for a little vacation. we are going to canoe part of the Grand Canyon- only the smooth water part and they will wear life jackets!
We are going to camp with our guys for two nights, and if it isn't too hot we will take some day hikes. I'll let you all know how it goes.

Hi there! So excited to have found this website, now I have to get home and post pics of my son Preston. He is almost 3 and we are inseperable!! I am very curious about switching Preston (also has the nick name of P-town) over to homemade meals for his overall heath, to loose some weight, and because I am already paying $50.00 for premium store bought food due to food allergies. ANYONE with any info I'd really apprecaite the feedback.

so oscar has been itching, sneezing, and scratching for a little while. we took him to the vet and he has really bad allergies. she suggested we give him benadryl and claritin to control the allergies.
i'm currently trying to figure out what is the best combination for him and how many times per day we should give him this stuff.
anyone else have a similar situation?

I must admit I had forgotten about this whole site! Now our pug family is back with a vengeance: January 2008, we got Opal, then 8 1/2 years old from Mid-Atlantic Pug Rescue; and then, in June 2008, Uma, 5 years old, joined the bunch, also from MAPR. We're all active in Pug Meetups in the DC Metro area, and we're soon going to be participating in a fund-raiser for MAPR on June 7th, in Haymarket, VA (http://www.midatlanticpugrescue.org/). I'd love to meet any pug lovers in the area either there… Continue

"This is Licorice here, reporting on my Mother's Day party. We started the day out right, by marinating the steaks the night before in peppercorn sauce. Mmmmm! It smelled sooooooo good! Then all my friends came over to party: Jazmin, the 8 year-old boxer, Dallas, (my BEST buddy) the 6 year old fawn boxer, and of course: Baylee (the old man), the 10 year old boxer. And, YES, I do have friends who aren't boxers, but a pug can't go wrong with these three! We played, sniffed, ran, inestigated,… Continue
