Casper 1994-2009

I have to thank you all for your support and good wishes for me and my family. We loved Casper so much and she was such a constant huge presence in our everyday lives and we miss her more than you can imagine, or maybe you can. Your thoughts and prayers keep me going and I am so appreciative of you taking the time to write to us. Give your pugs an extra kiss and hug from me. I have no regrets because I gave her a great life and did all I could to keep her strong and healthy. I just wanted her to… Continue

CASPER 1994-2009 A LOVE STORY

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our most
beloved Casper. She added so much joy to our lives each and every
day and we cherished and respected her and treated her like the Queen
she was.

She was the most charming, thoughtful, indifferent, insistent little
being who could stop traffic like nobody's business. She was
photographed by strangers who met her countless times and she had a
huge fan club who I know will all feel her loss.

A well traveled pug she spent time in Lo… Continue

Weaning off of steroids and the Dr Goldstein PLan UPDATE

After 4 weeks of slowly weaning Casper off of steroids and supporting her with all the homeopath supplements, Casper slowly got worse each day, mostly. her mobility. As I cut down the steroid she got less and less mobile, more stiff and painful to walk and hold her head up. she was walking with her head down... then her right side became so weak probably due to inflammation in her neck and sciatic nerve to her right side. she could hardly stand and buckled over 2 her right side. She was a troope… Continue

Dr Marty's Plan for Casper

Casper has arthritis in her elbows, and degerative disc disease in her neck. cushings disease from long term steroid therapy for the neck and elbow arthritis (yes a catch 22!) For Casper Cushings caused compromised liver function which caused degeneration in her eye health, thicking of the stomach and muscle weakness and atrophy in her hind quarters. She fell of the bed and hurt her neck back in 2005 and that's when she needed the steroid to help with th… Continue

Visit with Dr Marty at Smith Ridge Vet Clinic in Salem NY

We went for our visit and heard some great stories about dogs and cats that this clinic has been able to extend their lives in a quality manner and allowing pets to eventually pass from natural causes instead of being put down.

Casper has had mast cell disease since she was 1 and though they have never been cancerous I have had to monitor her and take swift action. at 14.5 she has very little vision left and chronic eye ulcers. chronic infections and progressive arthritis. Otherwise she is happ… Continue

Hi Madison,

Chicago (me) here checking in on New York (you!). I just posted a recent picture of Yikes! and I'm convinced she and Casper are sisters. I had her groomed (shaved) the other day and they put her in a cute bandana and I think she now looks more like your cutie. I love her coat after she's been shaved; it's like velvet. Anyway, it got me thinking that she REALLY DOES look a lot like Casper. Was Casper a petite pug? Yikes is about 17 pounds with very tiny feet and pencil thin legs. I'm hoping you are able to let another pug into your home and heart. I know you'll know when it's time.

Take care,
Jeanne

Hello Madison,
I am so drawn to your page as that beautiful face of Casper catches my eye every time I sign on. I am so sad for your loss, but I am wondering whether you will consider getting another pug. I lost a very young cocker spaniel and I told my vet that I would never put myself through that again. One week later I was in his office with Yikes! It was not a replacement for the dog I lost...it never could be. But it was the start of a new and wonderful friendship with another friend. What are your feelings on this?

Hi Madison,

I'm so sorry for your loss. Hopefully you'll find a new friend soon. PPRA is Precious Pug Rescue & Adoption. This is their website:

Indeed you were blessed in more than one way with her. Trust me, saying what I did about Gyps brought tears to my eyes also, she was a one and only for me, as Casper was for you. God bless, and the right one will come along in time.

Madison, I know that it's only a couple of months later, just wondering if you have found another little one to fill that empty spot. It has been three years for me since Gyppsy left and is still hard, Malia took a bit of getting used to but she has given me Jeb, who is now 16 months old. She also filled a huge spot in Walker's (the father) life. He was as lost as I was. Just wondering.

Hi madison and casper, hope you both are well we had to stop by and check up on you both are things going better for casper? We here have been keeping good thoughts for the both of you.Everyone here is doing well,we spend time outside as long as it's not cold and we go for walks and look at the leaves although they rather sniff them all the ones on the ground so it takes awhile before we can get back home.We are sending our very best to you both.
