After taking Bam bam to the doc. we learned that he needs the surgery to shorten his soft palate. Has anyones pug had this operation? I know he needs it done but Im scared for him!

My 1 yr old pug, bam bam has issues breathing- i think. The doctors havent said anything about it but I dont want him suffering like this. He breaths out of his mouth and it usually looks like he is gasping. His nostrils dont look like they are collapsed or too small but Im no doctor. I dont know what to do.

Four pugs? I am jealous! Thanks for the compliment on my photo. Pugs are the best! What would we do without them? Whenever I am down, Luna cheers me up by jumping in my lap and giving me kisses. And she's constantly making me laugh! I bet your pugs are the best of friends!

There are some breeds of dogs that are just naturally high strung. A Chi is one of them. This comes from many long years of inbreeding to get just the right "Look".
Some of these dogs are fine, but most are yappers, have socialization problems and are NOT good family pets, children are a no no. I hate to tell you this, but is sounds like you have done everything right so far, you just have a really high strung little dog. Sometimes putting your dog on an anti-depressant will help, it settles their minds enough for you to get some behavioral techniques to work. Just equate it to someone being hysterical over an issue. It sometimes takes a drastic action (such as a slap or a firm shake) in order to calm them down enough to talk to them-- nothing can get through until you calm them down. Putting your dog on an anti-depressant is a very common practice, I have some clients who say that they do not want to use drugs on their dogs, but my response is not to feel bad about using the drug for your dog........sometimes it is a very kind thing to do for your dog.......imagine feeling afraid every moment you are awake, how horrible that must be, you just have to make the determination as to how "afraid" your little one is and go from there.. Hope this helps.

When you can't travel with your pugs ...

When traveling and can't take our babies with us we used to have a friend stay with them at the house. She let us know that they spend most of their time by the front door waiting for mama to come home. That broke my heart. Velma even tries to escape to "look for mama." One time it was many hours before she was found -- so so scary. Now we leave the girls at a friends house who has a doggie daycare. They do okay there but really keep to themselves/huddle together in a corner. I'm so conflicted.…See More
