About Me:
My name is Susan and I live in Toronto, ON. Animal lover and advocate. Social worker by day. Proud Mommy to my "furry" daughter Tango.
How many pugs own me:
About my Pugs:
One darling girl, Tango-pug/French bulldog mix. Tango is 12 and a half years old and is quite a character! A clown really! Tango likes to "stop, drop and roll" while taking walkies, loves playing tuggy and loves any living person/animal! She's the best! Just don't say "squirrel" around her! :)

Tangos' current health concerns

Hello dear pug family,

Thank you for all of your welcome's to Pugslife! Really appreciate it!!
Thought I would share with you what Tango has been dealing with. Please don't be sad just please give me any advise that you think may help Tango during this time. I wrote a letter to our local Pugalug group (I posted it below): it will fill you in on the current situation.
Unfortunatly Tango had a rough weekend, unexpected, has a 2nd sezuire and vet detected some fluid in her left lung, mentioned possible tumour pressing on her lung. I'm doing everything I can, she will get an xray tomorrow and asperation of her one lump that has grown and we will take it from there. She is on 2 meds right now, prednisone (steroid) & Noroclav (antibiotic). I also have 2 syringes (no needle-to be administered anally) of diazapam 2ml to administer if she has a seizure and it lasts long time or she doesn't seem to be coming out of it-and then asap get her to the vets.
Pugalug has sent a kind email with some leads to follow up on for some possible financial assistance. We are lucky in Toronto to have many pug and dog lovers who rally to help all dogs. I am not asking any of you for money, not at all, I have a number of pro-active approaches to help with this and they will work out. I have faith in this.
Have any of you ever experienced a similar situation before with one of your pugs? I will do everything I can for her. Please send me any helpful info. Do you think that she has cancer in multiple places in her body?
I have never dealt with anything like this before so I ask of you, pug friends, for some advise, support, prayers and pug love sent Tango's way!

Thank you so much,

(letter I sent to PAL)

Dear Pugalug,

My name is Susan Kort and I am the proud mommy of Tango a 12 and a half year old sweet, female pug mix ,(vet beleives that Tango is pug and French Bulldog mix). Five years ago we attended a couple of Pugalug park events.

Our situation is as follows: I am a social worker, employment consultant, who has been diagnosed with M.S. a number of years ago. I have had to take a leave of absence recently, sick leave, from work for the next while, time unknown as of yet-to deal with my health issues and am waiting for my long term disability to kick in about the end of March. I have depleted my savings due to my health issues, time off from work-no sick days left-and am extremely terrified about Tango as she has been experiencing some serious health issues lately. I do not have the financial means/ability at the moment to get Tango the medical attention she needs.

My daughter and I rescued Tango 11 years ago from the OSPCA in Toronto. Tango was diagnosed when she was about 3 years old with mass cell tumour, it was removed and she was fine. Two other surgeries in a few more years, one for another mass cell tumour and one was benine. Over the last few weeks Tango has had a number of "lumps" appear, one, now two that the vet is concerned about. He has had me watch it to see if it grows over the next week or so, and it has, not a good sign. About 2 weeks ago Tango suffered a seizure, the first one she has ever had, and we took her to the vet. Our vet would like to asperate then possibly remove a couple of the lumps as he is concerned they may be cancer. This could mean the difference between her living a longer life. Is there any one that you can tell me of who could possibly assist me with this urgent care that Tango requires? Ufortunatly financial aid is what we need for Tango.

Please let me know of any organizations, groups or people that could help us. I could give back the money in time and/or volunteer. Our vet is not willing to put me on a payment plan as he has explained that it is a business and he could not extend that option to one person without doing so for others. I do not know what to do. I am researching on the internet to try and access some assistance.

We live in Toronto: Lawrence Ave., East and DVP area.

I am so sorry to ask you for this . Any assistance that you could provide to me would be greatly appreciated.

Susan E.

You bet we accept!  It is amazing just how quickly they catch onto spelling and other ways when we are hinting at what they want to do.  I have even gone so far as to say things backwards and mine catch one.  Makes a person wonder why it is that they don't learn manners as well......hmmmmm.  Something to ponder, that one is!

Just found the letter you wrote to all of us.  I'm so sorry to hear that Tango is having this traumatic time!  Glad help is available. I know with any animal, but especially an older one, there are always a lot of concerns.  I have a cat who is well, but turning 13 soon.  It's sometimes hard to know what to do and what not to do.  I always think that if they aren't in pain and are still enjoying life, we need to do as much as we can. Please keep me posted.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that tango had a difficult weekend!  I looked to see if you posted info yet, but couldn't find it.  (But, I did notice that Tango is a champion speller -- congrats... My 11 month old Izzy is not yet!)  I'll keep looking for the info and will be hoping that soon Tango will be much better.  I care.

Welcome to the Family Susan and Tango, so sorry to hear of both you and Tango, I can be very little help with Tango's problems though I did have a dog with a suspected Brain Tumour. Angus was a lumpy bumpy boy who had many of them looked at, but all were described as benign. He lost his sight two years before his massive stroke, but both we and the Vet thought was caused by all the damage to his eyes. One night he fitted and he was given what would be best described as first aid at the emergency Vet. Our own Vet prescribed the highest dose of phenobarbitol with no effect. It was suggested that we send him across country to the Glasgow Vet School but we felt that he had suffered enough and wanted him to be left with his dignity. We let him go, we felt it was the kindest thing for him. We were in the throws of moving house and we knew that we could not ensure that he would have been able to cope with that particular situation either. I know that Tango will be given every chance, you have done so much already and I am sure that  everyone here will be able to give you more positive information than I have. She is some girl, she seems to have inherited all the best of her two breeds. Helena and Hektor
