About Me:
II am fostering a pug mix for pug rescue. I'm a pet groomer (for over 32 years!) and work at Villa La Paws a cage free pet boarding and daycare facility. I have 3 children and 3 grandchildren. My husband Gary shares my love for dogs even though he started out at a "cat" fanatic. I have lived in the Valley most of my life and have been active in the dog world since my early teens. My Mom and I showed and bred dachshunds and I moved on to Cockers with my first husband. I finally found my pug love 9 years ago and have been passionate about the breed every since!
How many pugs own me:
12 pugs, a standard poodle, a husky mix and 1 foster
About my Pugs:
Uno was my first pug and je tragically died at a young age. My M&M boys came along soon after his death. Mooch and Mugglesare now age 8. My first adopted rescue pug was Maverick, a big black boy. Then the foster failure began and I adopted many more. I currently own Coco (5) the household alpha, a brindle who survived liver shunt surgery. Jack(5) a black boy who had numerous health problems, but is currently healthy. Ferris (11) a biter who couldn't be adopted. Oscar (11) a crazy boy with a crazy attitude, now afflicted with nerve breakdown in the rear end. Cookie (13) I took in from a customer who's health is failing, Percy (11) diabetic and blind and Petey (7) who's deaf and spasitic. He's missing a lot of his cerrabellum and as a result he is very different.. I also have a 12 year old Standard Poodle named Allie, and a 12 year old Husky mix named Jezebel.

I've just added Louie and Gidget to the group.I needed an infusion of crazy puppy personality! Louie was born Christmas Eve 2008. I got him from Cheri Bray. He's brought new Vitality to my "group home"! To play with Louie we've added Gidget (another of Cheri's pups) who's 2 months old. She's becoming a crazy and wild girl and will probably rule the roost someday!

My foster is Scout, a 1 1/2 year old pure black pug mix (I think puggle, others think bug) He's energetic, playful, LOUD, agile and sweet all at the same time. He has a mischievious streak and loves to "destuff" things (like toys and my comforter). I've worked a lot on his manners and he's actually a delightlful boy. He just needs a lot of activity to keep him manageable. Luckily I can put him in doggy daycare several days a week. Due to his knack for making rough adjustments to new situations, he needs to be adopted as an "only child". So I expect he'll be with me for a while.

Sleeping Sounds

Posted on August 2, 2009 at 4:50pm 2 Comments

I couldn't get to sleep last night and I listened to all the sounds around me. I can't understand how someone can sleep when it's really quiet. I have 14 dogs sleeping in my room and 11 are on the bed most of the time. I don't mind the crowd. There is a comfort to having the pack protecting me at night. I can tell by feel which dog is which. For example, Louie has the very softest coat and Maverick has the very coarse coat. Percy has a lump on his back and the soft rubbable ears. Gidget is left… Continue

Georgia is at the Bridge

Posted on June 25, 2009 at 9:37am 3 Comments

Georgia came into our lives early in our fostering career. She came to Rescue with her brother, Tiger, after there previous owner was put into a nursing home. It was obvious that they were well cared for and loved previously. Both were Senior pugs.

Tiger was not a real attractive boy. He also had housebreaking issues and a minor heart problem. Georgia was cute, small (14 lbs.) and very fiesty. She had limited eyesight, but I always compared her to the 90 year old woman who insisted… Continue

A Star is Born (or Stars!)

Posted on May 30, 2009 at 1:51pm 5 Comments

I was attending an APARN foster event at Choice Pet Market when a very intent looking woman approached me. Her name was Kathleen and she owned a Talent Agency for animals. She needed 3 more pugs for a movie. She needed two fawns and a black and wanted them to be bonded. In the movie the main character owns 6 pugs. She already had 3 pugs that she previously worked with. I happened to have the combo of dogs she needed and in addition had one more black pug. I also live fairly near her, so I… Continue

My foster Petey

Posted on May 28, 2009 at 6:29pm 2 Comments

I love Petey! He is one of the most unusual pugs I've ever known.

I began fostering Petey for APARN over 1 1/2 years ago. He's 7 years old. He was owned by a former vet tech who made the mistake of leaving Petey on the floor with her 9 month old and toys. Petey is toy possessive so he bit the baby. Petey had many difficult issues so I volunteered to take him on.

Petey is a registered pug (surprise!!!) who was born deaf and missing part of his brain, the cerrebellum. This… Continue

Hope lives forever!

Posted on May 19, 2009 at 8:55am 7 Comments

The picture on my page is one of Hope my very special girl.

Hope came to me in October 2007 as part of very sick litter of 12 week old puppies turned into Rescue by a back yard breeder. The breeder realized that he couldn't sell these sick puppies and turned them in to me along with the Mom and Dad pugs.

The puppies were pink and raw from Demodex. Several had eye ulcers. Hope had a seizure within the first half hour of being with me so it was off to the emergency Vet for… Continue

Sister Mary-Murphy here! Girl, you ARE the quintessential Pug lover if ever I saw! You are truly an Angel on Earth to care for all us less able-bodied Pugs. With my little black paw, I humbly salute you! And not to worry...it'll be a LONG time before me and the "Big Guy" head off to those backwoods again! I honestly felt like Ms. Glamour Lisa Douglas on the 60's sitcom "Green Acres!" Dah-ling I love you but give me Park Avenue! xoxo ~ Sister Mary-Murphy

Hi Laura, I have just read all about your family, I wish I could have all of the crazy's that you have but my Husband would throw a hairy fairy fit. I am restricted to one Pug these day's (anyway acquiring them here costs an arm a leg and a bit more) when my breeder offered me Hektor's brother I was forced to say NO. It hurt but I know my limitations and I did not think I could cope with two siblings, it is double the work and double the money for everything and as I had retired I just had to say no, Hektor is one of those dogs who likes being the Star of the show anyway. I bought the most dominant dog n the litter and though he is extremely sociable he likes his own space. My Husband is of the opinion that all Pugs should be only dogs as they do like the attention so he would agree with Scout as to be the only kid on the block. Regards Helena and Hektor xxxxx
