Pugs and their toys

Started this discussion. Last reply by Mike and Cherokee Compton Jan 12, 2012. 4 Replies

How are your pugs with their stuffed toys? Jack loves anything that squeaks and he's always been good with his toys...until recently. Now he's a savage with them. Rips their faces off. Does all he…Continue

Vomiting in the morning

Sunday morning and again this morning we came downstairs and discovered Jack had vomited what appears to be bile. We have not been able to witness but my wife could hear him gurgling before she…Continue

Digging in the carpet

Jack has recently begun driving us nuts by attacking the carpet. He seems to concentrate on two areas. I have tried everything to get him to stop but with no luck. I have tried several different…Continue

Docking a Pug's tail

Started this discussion. Last reply by lisa deville Nov 8, 2011. 8 Replies

I follow the Midwest Pug Rescue on Facebook. They've just taken in a pug with a docked tail. When you think of the pug, the curly tail is one of the first things that come to mind. I don't understand…Continue

About Me:
We started our pug adventure in the summer of 2010 with a sweet puppy named Jack. Within a week this 9 week old was housetrained. He is an odd chubby dog but we love him.

About my Pugs:
I enjoy chewing on my Dad's hand and love it when he screams "ouch!" I've yet to meet a little kid whose face I didn't want to lick off. When I'm not biting my Dad I enjoy shadow boxing with Mom's feet. I enjoy belly rubs, rolling in the grass and chasing after robins in the backyard. I hate car rides, other dogs and trips to the vet.

First Day with Two Pugs or "What the Heck was I Thinking?"

Posted on March 26, 2012 at 9:33am 8 Comments

In the interest of full disclosure, I didn’t need another pug. Jack has been the perfect family member in every way. Plus, there’s a big difference between needs and wants so while I didn’t need one, I sure did want one. I kept an eye on various websites and checked in with Jack’s breeder hoping she would have another litter so I could snatch one of Jack’s younger siblings. A litter came last year but I was too slow to get one.  It’s a tired cliché but timing really is…

Random Thoughts on Pugs

Posted on December 14, 2011 at 2:53pm 6 Comments

You ever look at your pug and wonder what in the hell is going thru their mind (if you're like me you may have even wondered if their brains are as wrinkled as their faces. If so, it would explain a lot about pug behavior)? For instance:

It doesn't matter how much carpet cleaner, deodorizer, etc I put on the carpet Jack will find a spot on the rug to dig at like the tastiest treat or the secret of the universe is hidden in there. Damage to carpeting is a very sore subject in my house.…

Celebrating Pug Differences

I took Jack to the vet for a nail trim and an ear cleaning. I envy those of you who are able to trim your pug's nails. Jack likes to squirm whenever you are doing any grooming with him and given how sensitive the nails are I would rather leave that to a professional. I feel pretty good about doing the ear cleaning and do that in between vet visits but my vet does a nice job getting all that gross gunk out of there that I don't mind having him do that when we go for the…

Personal Pug Trainer

Posted on September 26, 2011 at 12:04pm 7 Comments

I’m seeking investors to help me finance a television show called The Biggest Dog Loser. Ok, the title may need to be changed but I’m imagining a show where doggy trainers help man’s best friend to lose weight.  I’d be happy to make Jack a contestant on the show because he needs to drop a couple pounds and I’m not sure I’m the right guy to be his trainer.

I took Jack to the vet last week for his annual round of shots and routine grooming. As soon as the vet said “let’s get you on the…

Hi Jack and Co, Hektor is fine, got over his cataract op very well and when we thought we were safe this year he had a polyp under his right eye which needed removing. Other wise he is just the same old annoying Pug that I love to bit and want to kill at times. We moved last April to a new house, the builders are still building and Hektor thinks he runs the site. Other dogs have moved in since, we have two Bichon's in the house down the hill from us, they  cannot see each other but boy they seem to know when Hektor is out and they can bark worse than him.

I remembered about Jack's Mum, I am glad you took her, my Breeder looks to breed maybe two litters, no more from hers and she is right there. Then the girls get rehomed. She wanted me to consider taking Hektor's Dad, but boy I have the chip off the old block. Sidney would not tolerate another stud male and Hektor would not tolerate, well not without a fight sharing his home with another male either.

Nice to hear from you again,

Helena and Hektor

Hi Eric!  Just wanted to say Hi and see how Mr. Jack is doing.  Hope all is well!  Can't believe we are approching mid June already!  Take care!

Thank you for the help with the middle name Jack.  He is now Preston Poindexter, The LAST!  :)  But then again, maybe not.  I shall be having a house built in a couple of years in the country.  Much more room.  I can see perhaps another 10 or so in my future.  No, no, I don't think so.  Just don't tempt or challenge me.  I find it hard to resist winning stuff like that.

Hi there!  Just popping in to see how things are going with Haleigh.  Hope all is well!

Oh no!  I'm so sorry to hear that.  You have a daughter, right?  A pair of her underwear with a hole cut for the tail could do the trick lol.  That's what we used for our first dog.  I hope she catches on and gets the hang of it, with Jack's help.  I'm sure it will be a challenge for you, and her being that she is older and already set in her ways.  I know it's easier to train as a puppy.  Good luck and keep us posted!  Hope things work out!

Hi Eric,

Anything I can do to help!  LOL I was thinking that we are only 45 minutes away from each other.  Wouldn't it be fun to get together with the pugs somewhere?  How far are you from Alum Creek State Park up in Delaware?  They have a nice small fenced in dog park.

Sure would love to hear how the vet visit goes.

Hi Jack,  I would suggest that you take her in for a complete physical.  It sounds like she was not totally well cared for if she was left in a barn and hungry.  Give her a good month to get used to what real love and care is - then she will be okay.  My fosters took 3-4 weeks to understand they were safe and life can be good.

Haleigh looks sweet, it is amazing that you ended up with jack's mother, such a heart warming outcome. Jack still looks as cute and entertaining as usual and clearly you love him to bits - it's so obvious by the way you speak of his antics. I can so identify of the angelic picture where he is really ready to pounce. Haleigh must be finding it so different, in a good way, from the life she had before. Take care.

LOL Thanks for keeping me in mind.  Trust me, I'd have 10 Pugs if I could!

So glad Jack's Mommy is home with you guys - that's really neat!  Can't wait to read all about her and see more pictures :)

When you can't travel with your pugs ...

When traveling and can't take our babies with us we used to have a friend stay with them at the house. She let us know that they spend most of their time by the front door waiting for mama to come home. That broke my heart. Velma even tries to escape to "look for mama." One time it was many hours before she was found -- so so scary. Now we leave the girls at a friends house who has a doggie daycare. They do okay there but really keep to themselves/huddle together in a corner. I'm so conflicted.…See More
