About my Pugs:
I have raised Petunia since I was 6 years old. When I moved out of my parents' house, I was lucky enough to take her with me. She is in great shape for an old gal and loves carrots and curling up on my lap while I am on the computer.
Percy unfortunately died in 2010 at age 15 after a long full happy life. He will always be missed.
Both of my pugs are rescue pugs. Percy had one eye and weak back legs and was going to be put down because the pet store couldn't sell him. Petunia was (and still is even in old age) very hyper. She also had warts all over her face and the pet store couldn't sell her.
Petunia inspires me every day because she never gives up. Whenever she gets sick, she goes to my Dad (who is a vet) and gets medicine and is fine a week later. When her back legs started to give out (around age 14) she never stopped moving. At age 17, she still walks a pretty good distance and runs and does this little hopping thing.

Carrots

Posted on January 12, 2013 at 6:25am 6 Comments

Petunia loves carrots. She has always enjoyed them, but for some reason in her old age has become aggressive about getting them. When I open the fridge, she runs inside and refuses to move until she has a carrot. Sometimes when I need to distract her, I give her one of those big bugs bunny carrots to gnaw on.

But now she has developed a new level of aggression. If I somehow manage to close the fridge without giving her a carrot, she rams into me. This morning I had hot tea and I was…

You CAN teach an old pug new tricks...

Petunia (like most other pugs) operates by the logic "it is on the floor therefore it is mine". So it shouldn't have come to a shock to me that she was playing with my smart phone I left on the floor. But what was a shock to me was she somehow figured out how to call people from my recent contacts. So a few people I had called recently got a phone call that consisted of snorting then hanging up. I guess samsung should advertise the HTC One as "so easy a pug can use it".

Hi Elena! I think I saw you post on facebook - the PRoNE page... Not sure - but sounded like you. How's the New Year going for you so far? Hope you and Petunia are well.

Hi Elena, i am so impressed by Petunia and given her bad start in life fell on all four paws when she met you. She is quite a character, I love her pictures. Mine is only five but my previous old chap died two months short of his fifteenth birthday, his nephew was ten and an half when we lost him, but he did not have the staying power of his Uncle. Hektor is half American, his daddy was imported from Ohio as a stud, he is a real character but they all are. Helena

p.s. our names come from the same root.

Hi! I left a note on the Boston Pug group wall in response to your inquiry. If you know any other Pug owners that would want to meet once a month in Wakefield, perhaps the group wouldnt cancel so much. The meet in Lynn is held monthly :) Hope to meet you and your Petunia some day!

Welcome around, Elena!
It's great to have you here! You sound quite experienced with pugs and some of their health issues. Check out the forums, I think you may have a couple of answers for some of the members here.

Percy is the knight in shiny armor & Petunia is the princess, right? I hope you share some of their pics with us.

Keep in touch!

When you can't travel with your pugs ...

When traveling and can't take our babies with us we used to have a friend stay with them at the house. She let us know that they spend most of their time by the front door waiting for mama to come home. That broke my heart. Velma even tries to escape to "look for mama." One time it was many hours before she was found -- so so scary. Now we leave the girls at a friends house who has a doggie daycare. They do okay there but really keep to themselves/huddle together in a corner. I'm so conflicted.…See More
