About Me:
i am a nursing student at MSMC. i am a laboratory tech by trade but have recently decided to go back to school to get my degree in nursing. my fiance and i enjoy hiking w/our pug oscar, we love the beach, watching movies and most of all.....going to dodger games.
How many pugs own me:
About my Pugs:
we got oscar two years ago. he is one of the largest pugs i've ever seen. his fighting weight hovers around 25 lbs. he loves getting fruits and veggies for snacks. he also enjoys the occasional sip of beer and red wine. he snores louder than my fiance and doesn't like it when other men approach me if "daddy" isn't around. he's spoiled rotten. but most of all, he turned us into a family and for that we can never repay him.

so oscar has had his second vet visit in the past 3 months. steroids, oral antibiotics, antibiotic ear drops, antibiotic eye drops. he also has 2ndary dermatitis due to the allergies.

not sure what to do next. our vet said that our last hope is to try a hypoallergenic diet. she recommends science diet z/d but the ingredients are so INSANE!

i also checked out the ingredients in several other foods: nutro ultra holistic, avoderm, nature's recipe, and natural… Continue

a pug with allergies

Posted on May 12, 2009 at 8:40am 4 Comments

so oscar has been itching, sneezing, and scratching for a little while. we took him to the vet and he has really bad allergies. she suggested we give him benadryl and claritin to control the allergies.

i'm currently trying to figure out what is the best combination for him and how many times per day we should give him this stuff.

anyone else have a similar situation?

so my little porkchop oscar has taken to wizzing on everything in my apartment. i've tried several things to get the smell out. i even take him to the bathroom like every hour. it's getting to be too much. last nite before i went to bed, he wizzed on my entire comforter!

any advice would be greatly appreciated. he still has all his working male parts and having him fixed is not an option for us.

much love

Hi, I have been reading your page and as an addendum to my reply to your article on the forum I have to say that I think like me you have a very dominant Pug. He seems to do much what Hektor gets up to, mine is not keen on single men anywhere near me, but I tell him in a very off hand way that I am the one in charge not him. I do not let him do anything that I do not want him to. He leaves the house after me, I do pretend eating of his food before he is fed. As well as seeing a behaviourist with Oscar, I suggest that you put some of these things into action. If he normally goes out in front of you, you must bring him back, if he is normally on the sofa, he should only get this privilege if he earns it. None of this is going to be easy because he seems to have the bit between his teeth at present. It is also a problem if you show fear of him, because he is going to win. As I said before do not pick him up, at present this would do more harm than good. You may have to start training him right from the start just like he was a puppy but be guided by what the behaviourist tells you. I hope that both Brent and myself have been of some help to you, we both want you and Oscar to have a long and happy life together. I certainly do not want you to be faced with what happened to me. Regards Helena

It takes some getting used to for the kids, they do actually tolerate my brushing their teeth as long as I don't go overboard, pet stores also sell toothpaste. If they had the choice between getting their nails trimmed and their teeth brushed, they go for the teeth, at least it tastes good, and I do give them the choice. I put both items on the coffee table.....they know what is about to happen.

I know Greenies ( you can get them at Petsmart, Petco, etc. ) are supposed to be good for doggie breath problems. I have also seen other breath sprays for dogs at the pet stores too. I have not tried any of these personally but my Mom swears by Greenies and our pug Daisy loves the cat Greenies we get for Augie. Good luck!!!

I have thrown out 2 expensive comforters because I had the same problem. As a matter of fact, I have no comforter on my bed at this time because of it. My next one will be 100% cotton and machine washable!! If you are taking him out every hour, then it is definitely a matter of him marking his territory. Getting them fixed is pretty much the only advice I got when I had this problem. I need to make an appointment to get Niko fixed soon, and I'm hoping the peeing in the house will stop altogether. I don't have any solutions for you, but I wanted you to know you're not alone!
