thanks for the poem about rainbow bridge. it is greatly appreciated. I've been looking through the pics I have on my computer and found the very first ones Nancy sent me while I was away working on the rig. I love this early pics because Freda looked so happy and healthy which she was until she started showing all the signs and symptoms of PDE. I should say that it was never diagnosed as PDE but her illness fit the description in every way, and if it wasn't PDE then there was something wrong in her poor little brain somewhere that caused her to become more and more sick. we tried so many avenues of treatment and spent about 15 thousand on various vets, treatments, specialists and just meds like phenobarbital prednisone atopica and assorted other meds which she was on for a while and then off again.. it all boils down to the fact that no one knew what was wrong with her and no one could make her better. yes, I will always miss her but after a year at least I can look at pictures of her and watch videos without shedding tears. I had no Idea how much I would become attached to my little pug and all pugs in general until we got her. I've had many cats and dogs in the past and have loved them all but no animal touches my heart quite like a little puggie...  I know that if I won the lottery I would start my own pug rescue and most likely devote my life to caring for and giving a home to any and all pugs I could find... and I find myself thankful for her brother Bert, who is a perfect and beautiful pug too! here is an early pic of Freda and the most recent pic of Bert... oh I cant wait to get home and take him up in my arms again!. come on September 2nd.

Yup, I love the fawn ladies as well.

Gentlemen prefer fawns!  I gotta put that on my car! :)

Reg, I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my girl at 3yrs old to PDE also. It is a relatively unheard of disease in Australia, which is great for the general pug population, but made it harder as there was hardly anyone who knew what was going on with her. We had 2 months with her from when she first started showing signs. This past July marked 3 years since I lost her. I think of her every day & her photos are still in my house, and even on my desk at work (I've changed jobs 4 times since she passed too, she still follows me!). I got another pug soon after I lost her which helped me with the healing process, and added another pug to my family earlier this year. All fawn girls. I have a soft spot for my fawn girls.

Reg, welcome to this group.  Please feel free to pop on anytime you feel you need to talk about Freda, that is what this group is all about, talking about those we lost.  The rainbow bridge in my mind is such a beautiful place where all our lost babes can run and play and be whole again.  No pain, so old age, just lots of green plush grass where puppies can run and play as they wait for us to join them.  I know that my Lily and Lulu are happy once more and are playing with Muffin their long lost sister who they never even met.

Hi Reg,  Here is a copy of the Rainbow Bridge poem for you.  To me it is doggie heaven.  My Souffle died about a year ago and she is there with your Freda.

The Rainbow Bridge

inspired by a Norse legend

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,

Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.

Where the friends of man and woman do run,

When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,

Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.

On this golden land, they wait and they play,

Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,

For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.

Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,

Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,

Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.

All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,

Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;

Together again, both person and pet.

So they run to each other, these friends from long past,

The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,

Has turned into joy once more in each heart.

They embrace with a love that will last forever,

And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

So sorry to hear about Freda, PDE is a terrible thing and no Pug should have to suffer this. She was such a beautiful Pug and I am sure her Brother is too. Rainbow Bridge is where our dogs go to wait for our arrival. A nice place where nobody is sick, nobody is old and they all play together until the day their humans arrive then they move on with us. It is a lovely idea and even if you do not believe in an after life it is pleasant to think that all the dogs you have loved in your life are waiting on you. Much sympathy. Helena

Reg Dyke:  I know how you feel, so many of us have lost our loved ones.  My Zoe has been gone about a year and a half now.  I had got to be with her for a longer period than you did, just over 13 years.  After she passed I found pugslife and then shortly after got a new little girl into my life, Kloe.

I still think about my Zoe every single day.  I wish I could have her back in my arms for a little longer.  I miss her so much!

Thanks for sharing your story.
