Information

Black Pugs Unite!

Black pugs are slightly less common than fawns. The black is a recessive gene. A lot of people have black pugs, and I'm just curious as to how many on here do. :) You odn't have to have a black pug to join. But please post something id you do.

I had not noticed the rusty thing until ya'll mentioned it. Your right it is very evident in the pic of Pixie I posted. Pixie never new she was going to provide such an education for everyone...lol...But she is happy to oblige.

I have heard that too. Too much sunning will cause the blacks to turn reddish. It's good to use shampoo for black dogs it gives them back their black brilliance :)

When I got Jadah in April she was quite "rusty." Her breeder said that their coats change color when they are about to go into heat. Since then, she has gotten progressively blacker and has almost no rust-color now. I guess she's doing the opposite! Though it hasn't been a particularly hot summer here in Oregon.

My breeder friend in Scotland used to call that brown coat 'going rusty'! Apparently it happens to black horses when they're exposed to the sun too. Martha Stewart apparently keeps her Fresians indoors all summer to preserve the integrity of their black coats. Can you imagine?!

Isnt it funny how in the summer the blacks coat will turn a little brown? Its almost like someone sprayed peroxide on it,lol. just a hint of color..:)How can i load a pic. here?

I haven't commented on lil black Pixie on here in a while. She has really grown into a beautiful, mischievious, active, smart puggy. But she can be a naughty girl and also very loving. She loves to swim and is very good at it.

Overheating is a big problem for pugs here in New Mexico. I tend to get up and take my dogs for a walk at 5 or 6 a.m. Then that's it, they're in for the rest of the day - except for quick supervised potty breaks. I don't let them out of my sight for a minute because they can so quickly get in trouble with heat stroke. One thing I do when its particularly hot - I get them wet in the kitchen sink - just cool water, not cold. That keeps their little thermostats working for an hour or two. Then rinse and repeat! Good luck with him!
