I plan to drive from Florida to NY state with my two pugs. I have a small sports car, so crates are not an option. What do I do at rest stops? I can't take them inside. Any suggestions and tips are welcome!
They do sell small clothe crates that you could use, they colapse down when not using.Or just buy seatbelt harnesses when in the car, this worked good for me.Be sure to have some comfy familiar things ,like there blanket and a toy and bone..
Wow thats quite a trip. We have traveled with our pugs many times. When you have to stop and go in somewhere they will be fine locked in your car with a window cracked. But this is ONLY FOR SHORT PERIODS OF TIME!!! Like to pump gas go potty etc. Do not leave them to go in and eat or shop or anything like that. Also be sure you have harness's for them not just collars. When you take them out to potty a harness is much better and safer as they can pull out of a collar. I would just put the harness's on them and leave thm on the whole time so you don't have to fool with them taking on and off. Make sure you have a bowl to put water in for them. They will probably be excited and nervous and pant alot and need water. Take their special treats and blankets pillow or what ever makes them feel secure. Make them up a place to sleep. Go thru drive thrus to eat and either eat in your car or some places have picnic table outside. If you can tie them to the picnic table with their leash while you eat and let them snack and drink. The collapsable crate that Tracy mention is a good idea for while your out of the car if you don't want hem roaming around and if you have room. Take some of their favorite toys too. I'm sure you have probably thought of a lot of these things. But I still mentioned all I could remember us doing on trips. Different thing work for different trips. As I'm sure you know never leave them in a hot car or a freezing cold car. But for the length of time it would take for you to use the restroom they will be fine. I know I sound like an over protective mother...lol that's because I am...lol Good luck and be safe.
