I have tried to take a tick out of Mileys ear but I think I may have left the head in :( Is there anything I can do or put on it until I can get her to the vet tomorrow?

I found one last night on the outside of her ear which I soaked in vasaline then an hour or so later it was removed. I have just found another done exactly the same but only half of it has come out. There is nothing to pull it out with so it must have broken at the skin. I have no idea where she has got these from we haven't been in long grass or wooded areas. Shes never had them before so I'm unsure what to do. All my books say how to remove but nothing about leaving the heads in! Ah help! Should I be worried.... (cough cough, or more worried than I am?)

Hey Em, Guido has had a tick before and luckily I was able to pull the entire thing out.  As long as you are going to the vet I wouldn't be too concerned.  I think they are pretty common.  Please do keep us posted.

I got some advice this morning, the vet won't be able to do anything as they wont be able to get it out. Im going to get some drawing cream at lunch and put that on, then the head should just fall out on its own. I just have to keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't get infected.

Glad you were able to get some professional advice!  Good luck and please keep us posted :)
If it happens again I believe some surgical spirit on the remains works, you can also put it on before you try to remove the tick. You can get a thingy that takes them off as well.
I haven't since found another 1 on her head. I have removed that one in one piece. I have no idea where she's getting them from. We use the frontline flea & tick stuff.
I'm glad you were able to get rid of it.  Maybe certain bushes or trees where you walk?  I don't remember if it's fleas or ticks (maybe fleas) that can jump from one dog to another.  Maybe another dog?
Jackie its fleas that jump to other animals but I've also read they'll jump out of trees on you too. We used to bathe in alcohol after going in the woods to get rid of seed ticks so maybe that helps someone?
My pug, Lolita, got a tick on her belly about 2 weeks ago-we removed it (and removed the head) but she has a really hard bump where the tick was. I've read that this may be normal... but have you all experienced this with your pugs? My jack russell mix has had several ticks and we've never had this problem
My niece is a dachshund and she had a bite on her belly. It was awful purple and swollen but once the tick was removed it cleared up. Was really scary but nothing permanent.

OMG these ticks are driving us insane now. Shes had about 7 or 8 that I have removed over the past few weeks. Shes got lumps from ones which must have dropped of on their own. I'm waiting for our vet to ring me back about what to do next. I've washed her bedding twice, bathed her, frontlined her, been putting a tee tree cream on which is supposed to sooth the wounds and prevent any more.

Has anyone else had these any how did you stop them?

Thanks x
