I do not know what people get charged for medication for their dogs throughout the reach of Pugslife but I want to tell you what has happened to us.

Hektor has an eye problem which requires drops and these will probably be for the remainder of his life. These were prescribed by the Opthalmic Vet he attends for his eye problems. I used to buy them there until I discovered what they were charging for them, at that time £14+.  I then contacted our own vet and they were getting them for me on a 3?4 week basis until last month when they were having difficulty obtaining them. They were charging at the last £6.85 which I was happy to pay. They were going to look into finding a replacement but as they were not the vet who prescribed them I said I  better have a word with the Vet who had. So I phoned, they could get them, I went to get it, a 25 minute drive both ways as well and they were charging £16.49. I had no option but to buy them. When I got home I looked on the internet and the cheapest there was £4.00 a bottle plus postage but well that was not bad all considering. Fortunately Hektor had his 3 monthly visit and whilst there I asked for a prescription. No problem, for 3 bottles.

Hektor is on a medication which is also for humans so I asked in the local pharmacy if they could source these for me and the result was 3 bottles for  £6.96.

I know that Vets need to make money but hey this is ridiculous. I also know that they expect you to have insurance ( we do not) but you now know why insurance is so expensive.

I was talking to a couple of women I know in our village, one has a Cavalier who has the Cavie problem where the brain swells too big for the skull, so he is on medication for life. She has been into the pharmacy and has lso discovered that she is paying £48 a month at the Vet and they can do the same for £12.

So it pays to find out.
