Well we are thinking about the name "Shini" for our new puppy. The name derives from the Cherokee Indian and it means............"To shine among all". It is pronounced "Shin-ee" (the "i" is silent). What do you all think? May the voting begin.

WAIT! We have another name now too, it is "Chandellia". Which is also a Cherokee name meaning "Candle". It is pronounced "Shan-dell-ya". Which will probably get shortened to Channy (Shan-ee, silent "a"). Now may the voting really begin!
Well I like Shini, but that is just me. So one vote for "To shine among all" I mean what else does a Pug do.
Thank you for your vote The Wee Woman-  that is  the one we are more leaning on as well. We like both names, but the meaning of Shini just causes us to lean more towards it. And we even read between the lines of the meaning & saw..................."To be loved by many" <---- LOL little crazy maybe, but it's what we saw :)
I think it is made for Pugs if that is the other meaning. Pugs light up the world where ever they go, I know because I watch people's faces when they see or meet Hektor. Mine is a warrior, we named him for the Warrior Prince of Troy, as we both, My Husband is Andrew (Andros) and I am Helena (Helen) and we wanted to keep the Greek theme. Mind we should have really called him Achilles as he killed Hektor.

Hey, what about "Shini Chandellia Compton? That way w/both meanings put together it would be like the pup saying......................"Hi, my name is Shini Chandellia, I am a candle & I shine brightly to all that I meet"............. Wow, now thats a thought, even though the two together don't sound that great :/

Gets my vote as well, covers all bases. We, all of us that have middle names, seldom use them together, so would it matter. I think the short one is easier to use, dogs respond to names which end in "i" better than others. I think because it is the way we say them. In saying that, mine responds to his and it doesn't.
LOL! Yes, it is a pretty meaning & a great pug meaning, very fitting. That is interesting about your alls names!
Well we figure Shini or Shanny sound about the same. Then again, pugs are so smart, it may not pull over at all. LOL
Ok, I told the breeder what our name choices were. She said the puppy looked at her when she called her Chandellia! But didn't look for long as she was eating. LOL!! But like the breeder said, we will be able to tell better, once we meet her.
Ya'll put a lot more thought into names than I ever did...lol  Which is probably pretty evident by their names....lol  Was there no Cherokee name for trouble....hehehe???
No, couldn't even find any translation for it online w/out d/l-ing their programs. Your pups have cute names Pug Chick!
