Peeewheew....what stinky breath you have! All of a sudden over the last few weeks we've noticed Lily's breath has been a little more stinky than normal. Her teeth all seem to look okay, and I don't notice any decay. I actually brush her teeth with puppy tooth paste once every couple of weeks....well let me rephrase that...Lily licks the puppy tooth past and chews up her tooth brush once every couple of weeks! It's really strange too, it's like the odor is coming from way down there in her belly. If she yawns in your face, you better watch out. My husband said her ph level is off, and she's allergic to something, which would make sense too because of her unexplained rash we've been fighting. She is scheduled to go back for a follow up on her rash with the vet tomorrow afternoon and I'll make him aware of the breath issue if by some chance he doesn't figure it out on his own, but I don't know how that would be possible if he's within 3 feet of her little puggy mouth. Just curious if anyone else has any ideas. Sure will be glad to get all of this allergy stuff under control, hopefully tomorrow's visit will be the last for a while.
I have not had this problem with my pug, but I did have it with one of my boxers. Prince's breath was absolutely horrendous and would make me gag if he tried to give me kisses. What I had to do was switch him over to a high quality dry food only diet, the wet food I was giving him at dinner time was effecting him poorly. I don't know what Lily's diet is, but doggies are just like us and some foods don't like them very much as they like to eat them. We have all been there, lol.
Hi Christina, Thanks for your reply. Lily diet is pretty good, well she likes to eat alot but her food is Bil Jac, she's been on it for ever. I'm sure it is somehow diet related though because she does have more than her share of non-dog food. She's got a way with tricking all of us to give her more than an occasional bite of our food. It could be the combination of that and the medication she's been on, it's always something with these little guys! You can't help but love them to pieces though.
Hi, Hektor smells like biscuit and most of the time so does his breath, if it was other than that I would be looking for a reason. Wet food tends to make a very bad job of Pugs teeth especially as they do not have regular dentition. I unfortunately speak from experience as my previous Pugs were fed that way. Hektor has a dental chew most evenings and I have encouraged his chewing and his teeth are immaculate, they have no plaque at all and our other ones had even at his age. I so not think this is the problem with Lily but I do think that it could be diet related. I would speak to your Vet about this odour it may be the one thing that will point the way.
I don't know if these are available in America but they are Logic Orozyme Chews and they are made by the people who make the non brush toothpaste Logic. They do two sizes the small does not work for Hektor who is for all his size quite a powerful chewer so we had to get the medium, which we cut in half most of the time, they tend to vary in thickness and some cannot be cut but Hektor normally can manage them. He has used them since he was a puppy I took some to his puppy party and some people started using them. The ompany that makes them is called Ceba, I would try and get them, they are hide based and are impregnated with the toothpaste.
Your husband could be right i give my pugs organic apple cider vinager to regulate ph levals and as a flea preventative.I drink the ACV for myself for the ph leval also.I use ph test strips to make sure everyone is at the correct leval, very hard to test on dogs though! lol
I was feeding my pugs solid gold wee little bits for about five years, worked great. In my quest to find something to help with there anal glans, i decided to switch to wellness core grain free chicken. Its not working any better and ive noticed mooshoos breath became awfull!! And bellas coat has become oily. weird i know..I have bought wellness core ocean formula and am mixing that with the ckicken till its all gone. The fish seems to work for my pugs.I do buy small organic breath treats also, but not sure if they do any good..lol
As i brush my little ones teeth you can get dental sticks as well if your not able to brush yours as there are a few things out there as we all enjoy those pug kisses it's nice to enjoy them without gagging lol.
