Hi, my pug, Wubby (Nickname) has been lethargic all day and now he is wheezing. Not the normal sounds he makes, and he is trembeling on and off he won't get excited is I ask if he wants to go or a walk or ride he just lays there. Normally that would cause jumping running in circles etc.

This is our first pug any suggestions? I know he should go to the vet, but my husband and I have both been out of work for awhile and are now about to get evicted. Does this sound serious????

how old is he? could he have swallowed something or allergic to something? the trembeling may just be a natural reaction I would just moniter him closely untill tommorow unless he becomes really bad.pugs do have short noses so be careful to watch the breathing is he coughing at all? or just weezing? I know you can give pugs benadryl but you need to be very careful on the dose and any dog when not feeling well will not want to be active
Thank you to EVERYONE who responded. Wubby is around 3 1/2 he was a rescue dog. The Humane Society said he was 10 mos, but at his vet check they said he was about 1 1/2 and we have had him 2 years this past July. He seems much better today and is drinking, eating and walking around. He still seems a bit tired, but since he sleeps so much anyway it's hard to tell, but he isn't lethargic like yesterday. His breathing seems back to normal, but I know how many issues they have in that area and his nose holes are so small. We live in Utah and he was out in the yard with us yesterday and it was very hot. He was playing in the water, but maybe he still got overheated?? I know that is a problem with pugs. So I stayed up most of the night and kept him close (he sleeps with us) watching him he seemed kind of scared( my father swears dogs don't have emotions, yeah right!!) Anyway today he is much better I am keeping a close eye on him and my husband might have gotten a job today so one of the first things we will do is take him for a check up, it has been about 6 mos. Also he is overweight and I know that does not help the breathing. Our other 2 dogs(not Pugs) are treating him very lovingly like they know he feels icky. Thank you so much for your responses, it is a comfort to know there are people out there I can talk to. Stef and Wubby
I am so glad he is feeling better! maybe just a bit to much heat but I know they are our babys so when something is not right with them we panick! I felt really bad when Bently was 12 weeks old and I had to give him some medicine with a syringe in his mouth he cryed after and was lethargic but 2 hours later he was better I think he was just miffed at me holding him and forceing some meds down his throat
Stephanie I do not know how old Wubby is, but the fact that he is lethargic worries me no end. He could have a viral infection and this would require a Vet visit. Is there any Vet you could take him to that might charge you less for an appointment. The reason I am asking you how old he is, because this may be other things also which do also require Veterinary looking at.
I hope someone else can give you other reasons but my opinion is don;t leave this too long.
I am really glad that Wubby is better, when I read what had happened about him being in the heat I would have said it sounds like sun stroke. We had this with Angus who would never stay in the shade and the only cure was to get his core temperature down as fast as possible. What we did was put him into the shower and give him a good cold one.
