Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone could give me any tips on healthy treats I can give my little girl, and also what sorts of bones are good for pugs? Like rawhide? Maybe pigs ears too? She likes to chew on rawhide, but I have heard that they could choke on that, so I am a bit paranoid. She is my first puppy and I'm not sure..

So if anyone could give me advice, that would be great :)

Pigs ears, rawhide, they certainly enjoy the heck out of them, all I do is pay attention to the size of the treat when it is half way or so used up I will take it away and replace it. remember they have a deceptively large mouth and can put the pug swallow on stuff that would amaze you!. I had one once that ate a whole pot pie just like that...I Put it on the floor about a foot away from him, he started this inhaling thing, it slid across the floor to his wide open mouth and the whole thing disappeared shuuuooop, just like that. A little lip smacking afterwards, big burp and off he went. I must have stood there for 10 minutes processing what I had just seen!
Am I awake this morning or what?!
my pugs can't have them or the greenies either as they get iinfections from rawhide and jerky and they can't handle greenies either so they homemade treats or organic treats i have to be careful what mine eat as there are some pugs who don't do well with the rawhide or jerky type treats as you can do research online if that helps. All our best to you.

LOL! I always ask max if he tastes what he inhales :)
Ive never had problems with rawhide sticks. They tend to go sticky and chewy but neither of my Pugs have managed to actually chew the soggy bit off and swallow it. I usually just cut the soggy bit off qith scissors if it gets mucky.. I havent had any good experiences with pigs ears in the past with the shih tzu we used to have, he would have them and sometimes choke or something.

Carrots make good treats, even as training treats - Assuming your Pug doesnt mind eating veg.
My pug love's the pig ear twisties. He also likes ice cubes. I've also bought organic salmon treats, they have less fat, and omega 3. He love's them. I have not had any problems with choking. He does chew them all the way until they get soggy, then swallows them.
Nylabones are good chew toys for Pugs. When small mine had the little wishbone, you get blue and pink, and they do edible ones as well, when they get older buy the bigger ones, Hektor like wolf size and I prefer him to have bigger things than smaller things to prevent them going down. I also let him have rawhide items but again bigger than smaller for the same reason, once or twice he gets them into the whole of his mouth and once or twice they have been swallowed and he really should not be getting to. Carrots are good and believe it or not mine likes parsnip and what you lot would term swede. He loves oranges, but all mine have. I also buy a dental chew which is rawhide impregnated with toothpaste. I do not know if these are available in the US but they are called Logic Orozyme Chews. Hektor has had them since puppyhood and he has great teeth.
You could try Raw beef bones? To gnaw. Like the rib bones.
My girl loves rawhide bones and especially the ones with filling inside. There is a brand in Australia called Smackos that she adores and I get relatives to bring it over to me when they visit as it isn't available here. Like Helena, I go for larger sizes so she doesn't swallow.
I feed mine Alpacka bones, they really go nuts for them. Never seen a pug enjoy anything more than an Alpacka bone. Yep, Alpacka bone here for them and Alpacka bone there for them....
Brent, I really don't know what to say sometimes ...
Yes they are Chelsea. Rib bones, knuckles, etc. Then of course there are the dinasour bones like Sohpie got. 'One bone lasts a lifetime' now that's what I call economy shopping.
