Well everyone who knows me and Hektor knows he is a very confident dog. Nothing much phases him, he has always been left in charge of the house should be need to go out, and lets face it there are places you cannot take them.

My normal behaviour if I am leaving him in is to tell him where I am going, to tell him to go up on the sofa and that I will not be long. I do not linger, just get out of the house then and he has always been fine.

Friday night, well we decided having moved to a village with it's own Pub, we would have one night using the restaurant. So on Friday we got ready to go out and by this time Hektor was sound asleep. Rather than wake him we snuck out which I think was our big mistake. We were not out for that long, a mere hour and a half. He had moved over that period and whether he was upset because we were not there but he was extremely disturbed on Saturday afternoon, so we stayed in with him. By the evening, a time when he normally sleeps he dropped off but slept only for a few minutes at a time, the rest of the time he sat and stared at me and this is the method he uses to convey he needs out. So last night I was out six times with him.  By ten in the evening I had had it, and he was left in his usual place to sleep.

This morning he is fine, still barking at everything outside our window that he thinks should not be there, but sleeping fin.

My question is did my sneeking out without telling him upset him.

"If you have a new baby, I don't think a puppy would be a good choice.  Both take a lot of time.  Perhaps adopt an older pug?"
